Abigail has a few origin stories that she likes to tell, the least of which is that she sprang fully-formed from her father's head (or in some cases from behind his eyepatch) and that's why her middle name is Artemis.
Another is that she was in one of Fury's desk drawers and he happened to find her one morning.
Sometimes she also claims that she clung to his leg like a koala when he went to get coffee.
Of course, there's also the one that claims she crawled out of a recycle bin outside his office, already calling him 'dada'.

In any case, she's tight-lipped about who her mother is or was, and is very much her father's daughter in that she often walks into a secure area as if she belongs there and no one questions it.

She was a good student in school, but she also had (and still has) a wicked sense of humor and if one thing can be said about her pranks is that she does prank all of her friends equally, and sometimes elaborately.

Early on she decided that she was going to buck the family career of law enforcement, deciding instead that she wanted to play piano, which she does, and well. She's also good with horses mostly due to spending her summers as first a camper and then a camp counsellor at a cowboy camp. She does some roping and some trick riding as a hobby, but nothing she'd want to do as a career.
